Course Description
To enroll to the AIDA ** Freediver Course you should be 18 years of age, be able to swim at least 200 meters nonstop without fins and minimum 300 meters nonstop with mask, fins and snorkel. A medical form should also be completed. Experience as a scuba diver, spear fisher or any other underwater sport is also required.
The AIDA ** Freediver Course is divided in 2 theoretical sessions, one breathing and relaxation session, 2 confined water trainings usually in a swimming pool, 3 open water sessions and of course the exam at the end.
What will you learn during the theory session?
- The basics of freediving physics and physiology.
- Breathing and relaxation techniques for freediving.
- How to prevent blackouts and LMC.
- How to rescue a freediver in trouble.
- How to safely improve your dives.
During the breathing and relaxation session you will practice your breathing technique and how it can help you to feel relaxed.
In your first confined water session you will concentrate on the static apnea. Your instructor will teach you advanced breathing and relaxation techniques. With this you should be able to extend your breathing hold times easily and safely.
The second confined water session will be about dynamic apnea. You will learn about the correct weight you should use while freediving. You will also receive precious advices on your fining techniques and body position.
Before taking your exam you will head to the sea for your open water sessions where you will:
- Practice the Frenzel equalization technique.
- Improve your technique in free immersion and constant weight, duck diving technique, body and head positioning, stream line positioning during the descent and your fining technique.
- Safety and rescue procedure practicing underwater and at the surface.
- Learn how to use a safety lanyard.
- Exercise how to freedive close to a reef.
- Learn the progressive adaption of the depth.
To pass the AIDA ** Freediver Course and get your certificate you should perform a 2 minutes breath hold, swim 40 meters in dynamic apnea with fins and freedive till 16 meters depth in open water.

Day 2: Theory session; open water sessions and exam.
